Are you a skier or snowboarder? Do you want to be? There are some great mountains not far from you to either shred or be a tourist! One amazing place is Crystal Mountain, just 84 miles south of Seattle and only two hours away! Another awesome place to go is Stevens Pass, only 82 miles north of Seattle and a little under two hours away. These are two of my favorite mountains to ski. Crystal is a little bit more advanced than Stevens. The blue runs, (level 2 for difficulty) seem a little harder than the ones at Stevens. Both are wonderful environments where you can learn to ski or board. I personally learned how to ski at both mountains but I prefer to ski at Crystal now that I’m a better skier and want more challenging terrain. Crystal offers more acreage than Stevens does with 3,100 feet of vertical terrain while Stevens only has 1,800 feet of vertical terrain. Crystal has more of a variety of terrain, from the people who are just learning to ski, to the people who go almost every day and want a challenge. At Stevens there are 37 runs and at Crystal there are 57, both are fun places to go and ski. On powder days you can enjoy untouched powder for a while, but you don’t want to be late because you might miss out!
Both mountains are great, each with their own unique qualities! Crystal installed a gondola a few years ago, which takes you from the base to the top in one short ride. Stevens Pass installed a high-speed chair on the backside, letting you make more runs!
