"And so we discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being. It is not acquired by listening to words, but in virtue of experiences in which the child acts on his environment. The teacher's task is not to talk, but to prepare and arrange a series of motives for cultural activity in a special environment made for the child." -- Dr. Maria Montessori
Hello!
Me and a dolphin!
My name is Amy Stifter and I have lived in Washington State my entire life. My family has always lived just north of Seattle. For me, it's the perfect place because it isn't as crowded as living in Seattle and I can still go downtown for Sounders games or to museums. In my free time I love to read, play basketball, visit the zoo, and travel. I recently went to Washington D.C. for the first time. I've also been to Turkey and Greece. Last year I went to Disneyland and SeaWorld. At SeaWorld I was able to get into the water with some dolphins! My latest trip was to Maui where I made a turtle in the sand.
I did my undergraduate work at Shoreline Community College where I received my Associates degree. I transferred to the University of Washington and received my Bachelor's degree in history and English (go dawgs!). I recently graduated from University of Phoenix with my Masters in Teaching.
I worked my entire way through college and I've been lucky to have some very interesting jobs. I have worked at Wizards of the Coast where I ran tournaments. I was at the Pacific Science Center for seven years—three as a volunteer and four as staff—where I was a volunteer coordinator. I spent four years at an AMI Montessori school, where I worked as an assistant teacher. Lastly, I spent a year working with children who had been neglected and abused. I have been very fortunate to work with children of all ages and all backgrounds.

My Pets
My family has two dogs. Maddie who is eight years old and Baylee who is two years old. We've had each dog since they were puppies. Maddie is half golden retreiver and half yellow lab. Baylee is half golden retreiver and half Siberian husky. Maddie is obsessed with tennis balls and loves to fetch. Baylee is very interested in everything and spends most of her day chasing birds, squirrels, airplanes, and anything else she can see from the backyard. She also loves to dig holes and eat ice cubes.
